Paul Karr has over 20 years’ experience in senior leadership roles in finance and controllership, including over 15 years in insurance and financial services at AIG, American Express and GE Capital. He provides hand-on leadership in SEC financial reporting, internal controls, accounting policy (US GAAP and IFRS) and finance transformation in each of these areas. Examples of Paul’s accomplishments include: accelerating a closing process from 42 days to 14 days, establishing a robust analytics function to improve quality of financial reporting; remediating material weaknesses and other deficiencies in internal control over financial reporting (ICFR); and leveraging resources to timely address accounting issues, implement new accounting standards, improve quality of reporting, support M&A and reduce cost.
Paul began his career at Deloitte, where he was an audit partner in Chicago, serving clients of all sizes and industries, and in the National Office, helping integrate the firm’s major merger, resolving accounting issues for the firm’s clients and helping set accounting standards for investment securities and other areas. He is a member of the Financial Reporting Committee of the Institute of Management Accountants, which meets with and seeks to influence setters of accounting standards, the American Institute of CPAs and the Financial Executives Institute.
Paul has BS (accountancy) and Master of Accounting Science degrees from the University of Illinois. He lives in Stamford, Connecticut.
